Hello Stefani,

I was working as an accountant for a major corporation, taking my children to daycare, and missing them desperately. I loved my job, but I had a strong desire to own a business. Unfortunately, I did not have the courage to quit a wonderful career and start from nothing, until fate stepped in. I noticed that simple tasks were becoming more challenging every day. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, an immune disorder that causes extreme pain and loss of mobility. I lost the ability to lift my baby out of the crib and I realized this was a wake-up call. My future was uncertain, and my thoughts turned to my children. I desperately needed to spend every available moment with them, before it was too late.

I retired early from my job, took the computer knowledge I had and looked to the Internet for work. I started out doing private consulting and web work for other people and taking on freelance writing jobs. I also created my own sites, beginning with The Mommy Mall. At the time, it was difficult to find great places to shop online. I developed the mall as a place for small business owners to highlight their products, while at the same time providing a shopping service to the community.

That was nearly 10 years ago, and a lot has changed since then. I am my biggest client now as my own websites generate more income than I earned as an accountant. I have been fortunate to watch my children grow up. I worked when they were at school or sleeping and enjoyed them when they were home. Due to my flexible schedule, I also have the privilege of homeschooling my son, and volunteering for local charities.
